Caring for jeans with unwanted odors
Start with the garment’s care label and the washing machine instructions. Choose a laundry product labeled for the fabric and follow its directions. Follow the garment’s drying instructions before storing it. If a new garment has a persistent unusual odor, ask the seller or manufacturer for care advice instead of assuming its cause.
Do not mix cleaning products
Do not mix cleaning chemicals. Do not combine hydrogen peroxide with vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or other cleaning products. Do not apply it over another cleaner or its residue. Follow the product label and the material manufacturer’s care instructions rather than a homemade mixture.
Do not combine laundry additives or layer treatments over residues. Peroxide may affect fabric color; do not assume that a treatment is safe for dyed denim.
Handling precautions
Hydrogen peroxide is not harmless. Avoid ingestion and contact with skin or eyes. Follow the product label and safety data sheet for handling, protective equipment, ventilation, storage, and first aid. Do not assume that dilution or ventilation makes a chemical mixture safe.
Keep cleaning products in their original labeled containers, secured away from children and pets. Follow the manufacturer’s storage directions. Do not ingest hydrogen peroxide.
Cleaning is not a disinfection claim
This article does not establish that a particular peroxide product disinfects, sanitizes, prevents illness, or is appropriate for food contact. Any such use requires the applicable product instructions and supporting evidence; an ingredient name or a study of another formulation is not enough.
